HBO and China Movie Channel are to co-develop films for China’s television audience and then market them abroad, according to a report from Cannes Film Festival.
“We're very excited to be partnering with HBO on high quality TV movies,” Zhang Ling, vice president of China Movie Channel told The Hollywood Reporter. “Our business models are very complimentary, so it is a natural collaboration.”
China Movie Channel (CCTV6), run by state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV), added that more details about the deal would emerge in June at the Shanghai Film Festival.
HBO has produced local-language drama series with partners in Eastern Europe, Latin America and Singapore, but this deal marks its first such foray into China.
