Spain’s Mediapro claims to be the largest content producer in the country as it closed 2015, with a positive operational margin of €129 million.
mediapro sedeMediapro invoiced over €1.5 billion last year thanks to growing international business, content production, sports rights management and broadcasting services.
Up 40% compared to 2014, the Spanish company closed 2015 with €129 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), and aims to reach €170 million in 2016.
Mediapro has become a solid partner for live sports production through its subsidiary Servicios Audiovisuales. The company was selected for several FIFA events (Chile’s under-17 and New Zealand’s under-20 world cups), handball world cup in Qatar, FIBA’s Eurobasket, Formula One’s championship and football leagues in Spain, France and Portugal, among other countries. In addition, it has produced several of these sports events in Ultra HD, thanks to three 4K mobile units.
Its broadcasting subsidiary, Overon, has also secured partnerships with some of the largest international TV groups, such as Fox, Discovery, Eurosport and NBC.
But among all these projects, Mediapro has found international success through two sports partners: La Liga and Formula One.
In 2015, La Liga awarded the company with the international management of TV rights, generating sales for over €600 million. In Spain, it also acquired a large rights package which will integrate into a new beIN Sports pay-TV signal.
Regarding Formula One, Mediapro owns the rights for Latin America. It currently distributes a regional pay-TV signal, Canal F1 Latin America, which is airing through pan-regional operators such as DirecTV as well as many local platforms such as Mexico’s Televisa and Argentina’s Cablevisión.
