| Former Mediapro agent pleads guilty in FIFA scandal Juan Fernandez Gonzalez | 24 March 2016 Miguel Trujillo, who was connected to Mediapro subsidiary Media World, has pleaded guilty before New York's federal court regarding the FIFA corruption scandal. Although he's no longer related to the Miami-based company, he was licensed by FIFA to negotiate and arrange matches between member associations, particularly in Central America and the Caribbean. According to AFP, Trujillo now faces charges for fraud and money laundering. He is accused of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to high-ranking FIFA and soccer officials in Central America and the Caribbean to secure media and marketing contracts. Since the case started, 13 people have pleaded guilty and accepted to cooperate with US prosecutors, while another 26 are awaiting trial Mediapro, the Spanish parent company of Media World through Grupo Imagina, has rejected any connection with the corruption scandal and has fired the two executives named in the investigation: Roger Huguet, co-founder of Media World, and Fabio Tordin. Both have pleaded guilty and paid a $600,000 bond. The company is also said to have broken relations with Trujillo.
The scandal has affected Media World from the beginning, even driving a FBI operation inside the company's Miami headquarters in December 2015.
Media World is the main commercial arm of Mediapro in the Americas, through which it manages most of its sports broadcasting rights, including La Liga.
