By broadcasting live programming of all the testing prior to the start of the Formula One and MotoGP championships, Telefónica's Movistar TV aims to warm up the Spanish audience through its two premium pay-TV signals exclusively dedicated to motor sports.
Having just finished the first Formula One testing at the Spanish track in Jerez, a team of three journalists have been presenting two programmes per day analysing the drivers' first experiences of their new cars. In addition, four electronic news gathering (ENG) cameras have been filming throughout the circuit to follow the first moves of the new bolides.
Movistar TV's Formula One-dedicated programming will continue in the second half of February from Montmeló, a track in Catalonia. Also broadcasting two programmes a day live from the circuit, the premium channel will cover the last testing before the first race of the season in Australia.
Telefónica's pay-TV platform is repeating the same strategy with MotoGP, having already covered the first tests of the year from the Sepang track, in which Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo tried out their new Yamahas. The test will continue in Sepang between 23-25 of February, moving to Qatar's Losail from 14-16 March, the last tests before the world championship kicks off in Qatar at the end of March.
Although both Formula One and MotoGP championships finished in November, Movistar TV's channels have continued to broadcast, with documentaries such as Ayrton Senna's Last Days, We're Not Going There and news programmes analysing previous and upcoming seasons.
