Popcornflix has logged a popularity milestone: the ad-supported over-the-top (OTT) service has seen more than 4.5 million downloads combined for the Popcornflix, FrightPix and Popcornflix Kids channels on the Roku platform.
“As streaming TV becomes the go-to entertainment choice for millions of consumers, the free streaming movie and TV services from Popcornflix are providing Roku customers with hours of absolutely free programming,” the company said. “Consumers have many entertainment options today, and millions choose Roku players and Popcornflix for great content and entertainment value.”
Popcornflix, FrightPix and Popcornflix Kids offer access to thousands of full-length films and popular TV programmes, including recent movies like Monster, cartoon classics like Popeye, mockumentary comedies like Trailer Park Boys and TV shows like the Man Show, the Big Comfy Couch, bio-science thriller ReGenesis and Mystery Science Theater 3000.
“The Roku name has become synonymous with TV streaming,” said David Fannon, executive vice president at Screen Media Ventures. “We’re thrilled to develop channels for the Roku platform and bring viewers free entertainment options, and look forward to delivering our great content to a growing number of Roku customers as the streaming revolution continues.”
