Exclusive: German Hulu to cover free and pay-TV

The German online video portal which Hamburg-based multimedia
service provider Mondia Media wants to set up modelled on US platform
Hulu will contain a mixture of free-of-charge and fee-based programmes.
The free content will be financed through advertising while a payment solution is planned for the premium offering.
"We are currently in discussions regarding the constitution of the
premium service and the price tags at launch," Michael Krause, vice
president marketing, sales & innovation, told Rapid TV News.
"As a platform operator, we are flexible in this aspect and we will
try offering consumers the best service at the best price."
Hulu in the USA also provides its users with both free and - through
Hulu Plus - premium content. Mondia Media, however, doesn't want to use
the name of its role model in Germany.
"We have used the reference to Hulu only to make it clear to everyone
how the service will be structured," explained Krause. "We have not
acquired the name rights for Hulu and also don't think that the name
would be suitable over here in Germany. Our service will be launched
with another product name which it not yet to be published."
