TF1, Viaccess-Orca claim new era for sports with VR live streaming

Protection and enhancement of content services provider Viaccess-Orca and French TV channel TF1 have broadcast what they are calling the world's first live stream of a football match in 360° and Ultra HD.
On 29 March, a private audience enjoyed a football match between France and Russia in real-time, from three remote locations, delivering a HEVC-encoded Ultra HD stream to virtual reality (VR) headsets.
The VR experience was powered by Viaccess-Orca's Virtual Arena technology based on its Connected Sentinel Player solution. The company also managed an end-to-end ecosystem of technology partners, managed by Viaccess-Orca, and including compression and delivery company, Harmonic, over-the-top (OTT) streaming specialist, Keepixo, 360° stitching and image processing specialist, VideoStitch, expert in production process for live programmes, AmpVisual TV, and specialist in filming and post-production of 360° videos, Digital Immersion.
