| Media Networks, Tenfield shake up Peru’s football broadcasting Juan Fernandez Gonzalez | 29 March 2016 Through Consorcio Fútbol Perú, Telefónica's Media Networks and Tenfield are to launch a pay-TV channel which will broadcast the entire national football schedule. Up until now, Media Network's CMD and Tenfield's Gol TV shared the pay-TV rights and allowed América TV to broadcast, free-to-air, some of the games. From April, the only football channel will be Gol Peru, which will own most of the broadcasting rights, although CMD will continue to air the national team’s games. Gol Peru will be exclusively available through Telefónica's Movistar TV, leaving operators including DirecTV and Claro TV with no access to some of the most watched TV content. Media Networks has confirmed that negotiations are still ongoing over the one game per week which will be offered free-to-air. The channel will air Peru’s entire first league or Torneo Descentralizado de Fútbol Profesional. Telefónica also owns the exclusive rights to Copa Movistar. Through the move, the Spanish telco continues to position Peru as its second most important market outside Spain. | |
