With YouTube’s latest forays driving the online video market, rival Vimeo has picked up the original content gauntlet thrown and has expanded its own slate.
The initial intention for Vimeo was to create an environment whereby “without the limitations” of commercial breaks or primetime regulations, it could “stretch its creative wings” past the boundaries of required running times or focus-group-approved plotlines.
The new Vimeo Originals programming includes a comedy special, a documentary from a 10-time staff-picked creator, its very first concert, and other pieces.
From 30 March the company will show the second series of comedy The Outs while from 8 April it will premiere Lonely and Horny, the first series from CollegeHumor’s Jake and Amir since the end of their eight-year eponymous series. Vimeo will be dropping in musical comedy special Garfunkel and Oates: Trying to Be Special in May. Also completing a journey from crowdfunding to pre-production is feature documentary Wizard Mode, a profile of an international pinball whizz as he ascends the circuit ranks and sheds the stereotypes of autism.
