A&E launches Lifetime Network OTT service

A&E Networks has launched an online video streaming service for its Lifetime cable network.
The over-the-top (OTT) Lifetime Movie Club debuted this past week with a price of $3.99 a month. For now, Apple has distribution exclusivity with an iOS app, but A&E said that it is working to expand that.
A&E’s move follows OTT launches for CBS, HBO, Showtime, Nickelodeon, Tennis Channel and other major TV programmers as they look to combat upstarts like Netflix and Amazon Prime. However, Lifetime Movie Club will not feature live TV programming, but rather, as its name suggests, will only show TV movies from the parent Lifetime cable network at least a year after their initial airing.
The content will rotate around 30 of Lifetime's library of 300 titles each month, grouping them under thematic categories like Summer Lovin, Dramatic Affairs, Murder & Mayhem and Ripped from the Headlines.
