NatGeo to highlight India in the 1980s

A one hour special called The 80s: India, covering key events in the country’s politics, economics, TV, film and sport, will premiere on 7 December on the National Geographic Channel.
The show, which follows the channel’s six part series The 80s, will look back at key moments on Indian soil during the decade. The change in the political landscape following the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the advent of colour television, and India’s Cricket World Cup victory in 1983, are just three of the era-defining events explored.
“We received a great response to The 80s series which covered a lot of what the world saw in the decade. Taking the thought forward, ‘The 80s India’ deep dives into what was shaking, shaping and rocking our country during the decade. From nostalgia to information – this special has a lot for the viewer of today,” said Debarpita Banerjee, Vice President, Marketing, National Geographic and Fox International Channels.
Interviews with journalists, culturists, filmmakers and researchers – including Mahesh Bhatt, Santosh Desai, Vinod Dua, Subhash Ghai, Anurag Kashyap - will be interspersed with archive footage and photographs.
The 80s: India will be shown on the National Geographic Channel at 10pm on Saturday 7 December.
