Less than a month after celebrating the launch of additional content to the service, GlobeCast has informed its channel partners that it is to cease operation of its MyGlobeTV IPTV platform as of 31 December 2013.
As Rapid TV News went to press there was no official media statement confirming the news, but what can be reported is that GlobeCast has distributed letters to content owners informing them of the move. In its letter, GlobeCast has stated its commitment to honour obligations regarding licence fees.
MyGlobeTV was intended to be a broadband-based IPTV complement to GlobeCast's satellite offerings, delivering premium programming from around the globe to televisions or any connected device.
MyGlobeTV offered an end-to-end solution including content ingestion, delivery, and management system; signal transportation and encoding; multi-platform distribution; marketing; retail distribution; and customer care. GlobeCast had ambitions that with MyGlobeTV, broadcasters could develop new revenue streams and expand their viewer base by reaching markets not easily accessed via direct-to-home (DTH) satellite.
