Colombia's Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogotá (ETB) says it will now be ready to launch its IPTV service in the first half of 2014. The launch was scheduled for December, but according to the company the service requires more testing.
"The plan is to focus on Bogotá, although the service can be extended to other cities in the future," said Saul Kattan Cohen, president of ETB, in an interview with the website NexTV. "The key is the personalisation of services, with the content available on demand, only when the viewer asks for it."
The interactive platform solution will be provided by Huawei, offering end-to-end tool using ETB's fibre network. The telecommunications company, which is 88% owned by the city council of Bogotá, has been modernising its infrastructure to keep pace with its two main competitors in the country: America Movil and Telefonica.
ETB's IPTV service offers HD signals, video-on-demand (VOD), recorded schedule (DVR), time-shifted TV and a TV everywhere platform. The head-end solution will be developed by Harmonic.
The platform's schedule has not yet been unveiled, apart from the addition of Win Sports, the 24/7 Colombian sports network. This channel is not available on Une, Claro or Movistar's pay-TV platforms.
