As part of its plans to grow its comedy slate, Yahoo! UK has launched a new satirical animation series based on the handle which parodies Queen Elizabeth’s conversations with her family and politicians.
The spoof Twitter account has a global following of more than 1.1 million fans who can now see their favourite characters brought to life in the six-part series, entitled Yes Ma’am.
The series has been devised and written by the secret creator of the social media phenomenon and will launch on the Yahoo! comedy channel on 15 November, with an alternative Christmas special scheduled to go live on 25 December to coincide with the Queen’s traditional Christmas speech to subjects in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.
Yes Ma’am was commissioned by Yahoo! and the series is produced by the digital agency Sweetweets, with animation by Cutlass Productions. Episode themes will include Prince William is Left Holding the Baby, A Day at the Races, Prince Harry’s Search and Rescue Mission and the aforementioned Her Majesty’s Christmas Message.
Commenting on the launch, Yahoo! head of video, Dan Watt-Smith, said: "Usually we see characters from TV shows beating a path to Twitter, but we’re trying an alternative approach, creating an online video series … Each episode will not only give us a topical angle to promote, but will have long-term appeal.”
