Switzerland's largest cable operator UPC Cablecom is entering the mobile business and aims to launch a mobile phone service for consumers before Christmas 2013, reports Swiss business newspaper Handelszeitung.
Mobile phone services for business customers are to follow a few months later. With the move, the cable operator will catch up with its competitors Swisscom and Sunrise by offering Internet, TV, fixed-line and mobile telephony from one source.
A UPC Cablecom spokesman confirmed that preparations for such a service are underway. However, he declined to name a launch date.
The mobile offering will use Orange's mobile network. The collaboration contract was signed two years ago.
