MTG pondering Latin America distribution with Millicom

Swedish company MTG Viasat is considering launching pay-TV channels for Latin American distributors. The group has confirmed that is studying the option together with Millicom, although no final decision has been made.
However, regional media suggests that three channels will be launched: Viasat Explorer, Viasat History and a HD signal with the best of both. If these prove successful, Viasat Nature will be added to the portfolio, which will be based on documentary productions.
According to recent reports, the interest of Latin American audiences in documentaries is on the increase, while the traditional leading formats such as fiction - especially soap operas - and docurealities are losing importance, although both are still the most watched genres in the region. This, together with the increasing business opportunities in the region, may be the reasons behind the interest of MTG.
