Football beats politics for popular vote in Spain Juan Fernandez Gonzalez

Although nearly 30 million Spaniards at some point followed political general election on Sunday, the most watched show was the Euro 2016 game between Hungary and Belgium which was on simultaneously.
share eleccionesAlthough not expected to gain a large audience, the football match gathered an average 2.9 million viewers on Mediaset’s Telecinco, according to Kantar Media and Barlovento Comunicación.
However, these Euro 2016 figures were the lowest for Mediaset, which during the first round averaged nearly five million viewers and a 30% share among all the games.
The second most-watched show was Al Rojo Vivo on Atresmedia’s LaSexta, which drew 2.13 million viewers and a 14.9% share during prime time, covering the election count and first political reactions.
Atresmedia’s Antena3 Noticias1, with 1.74 million viewers, and Antena3 Elecciones Generales, 1.68 million, were the third and fourth most-watched programmes.
The same trend was noted on social TV ratings, with LaSexta’s Al Rojo Vivo gathering the highest number of tweets at 424,000.
