| Optus reveals Premier League pricing Rebecca Hawkes | 05 May 2016 Optus customers will be able to receive English Premier League (EPL) matches from A$15 extra per month with free data streaming, the Australian telco has announced. EPL coverage will come without charge to those customers already having plans costing $85 per month. The football packages will be available in post-paid mobile, mobile broadband and home broadband bundles, with Yes TV by Fetch included, Optus said. “While you’ll need to be an Optus customer to get all the EPL action, Optus research shows that close to two in three (63%) football fans, who are not already Optus customers, are out of contract for at least one of their fixed broadband or mobile services,” said Ben White managing director of marketing and product, Optus “We’re confident that when these fans see our range of great value EPL-ready plans, they’ll be convinced that now’s the right time to switch. And for those not quite ready to make that extra commitment, we also have a great post-paid BYO mobile plan that will provide access to the EPL.” All 380 EPL matches during the 2016-17 season will be aired live on Australia’s first 24 hour EPL channel, with up to nine sub channels also providing news and analysis programming. The telco has also unveiled that streaming EPL over the Optus mobile and fixed network will be data free on eligible plans – so it will not use customers’ mobile, mobile broadband or home broadband data allowance.
Optus will also launch new apps for mobile and tablets, along with a dedicated website, to allow customers to view EPL coverage on up to four devices per subscription.
Football fans can watch matches on a TV screen using Optus’ IPTV service Yes TV on a Fetch set-top box (STB), which also delivers subscription video-on-demand (VOD) services including Netflix, Stan, and further football from BeIN Sports.
In July, Optus will also introduce a mini STB to deliver Yes TV to Optus post-paid mobile customers who want to watch matches on their TV screens for an extra $5 per month. This option will be available to those without Optus broadband services, but data charges may apply.
In areas where Optus broadband is not available or doesn't support HD content, customers can gain access via satellite for an extra $20 per month and a dish installation fee.
