Filmin launches new VOD app for smart TVs, mobile devices

Following its brand and logo refreshment and its transformation into a complete video-on-demand (VOD) platform, Spanish independent film platform Filmin is launching a new app for smart TVs and another one for Android devices, with an iOS version set to arrive soon.
filminlogoFilmin, which also announced its first Latin American foray this week, Filmin Latino is betting on a new image and a renewed service to strengthen its position in Spain.
Its smart TV app has been redesigned for the latest Samsung and LG models, and the company said it would add more devices to the list in the coming weeks. It's also about to launch a new online player.
On the usability side, Filmin is preparing a premium subscription, plus new content organised in channels by themes and formats like documentaries, short movies and music films.
Even though the move is not necessarily related, the platform, one of the most-used independent VOD platforms in Spain, intends to solidify its position in the market before Netflix launches in the country in a few months.
