Amazon launches Prime Instant Video in Austria
US online retailer Amazon has commenced offering its subscription service Amazon Prime in Austria.
Besides free shipping with no minimum order volume and other services, the package contains video-on-demand (VOD) service Amazon Prime Instant Video.
Customers gain access to 13,000 titles including series like The Walking Dead, Homeland, The Big Bang Theory and Revenge as well as movies such as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Der Medicus, Django Unchained and Argo.
The videos can be watched on PC and Mac computers as well as on a range of mobile devices. Connected TV sets, blu-ray players and games consoles will be added in the next weeks.
Amazon Prime costs €49 per year; the membership can be tested free of charge for 30 days.
Amazon Prime Instant Video will compete with other VOD players in Austria such as Netflix, Sky Snap and Flimmit, a subsidiary of public broadcaster ORF.
