Charter trials cloud UI in Fort Worth

Charter Communications is testing a cloud-based user interface in Fort Worth, Texas, which will work on IP devices as well as legacy set-tops.
Charter CEO Tom Rutledge made the announcement at Liberty Media's annual Investor Day.
The cable MSO had previously announced that it had tapped ActiveVideo's CloudTV H5 platform to extend the user experience from the cloud to any connected device. The idea is to roll out TV services embedded with modern UIs that support guide, navigation and rich media applications across a range of device and network paradigms. Charter isn't alone in the idea: Cablevision is another ActiveVideo CloudTV customer.
"With billions of connected devices in the market, the need is growing exponentially for cloud-based solutions that can reduce device and experience fragmentation," said Jeff Miller, president and CEO of ActiveVideo. "Our continued commitment to improving the CloudTV platform will help our customers address multiple needs: delivering the best possible viewer experiences, accelerating time to market, and providing the operational scale to roll out TV everywhere-style services, all while minimising infrastructure costs."
